Detox to improve your life.

by Andrea Cullen

In our modern day world it is crucial that we support the natural detoxification process of the body such that we reduce the toxic burden we are exposed to and limit associated health effects.

Symptoms of poor detox function include, but are not limited to poor energy and daily fatigue; difficulty shedding weight; poor skin; hormonal imbalances; headaches; indigestion, constipation and gastro symptoms; allergies, asthma and eczema; insomnia; and poor health in general. Many modern day chronic illnesses are related to an over-burdening of the detoxification systems and nutrient deficiencies due to poor diet. This group class will comprehensively address many important issues in a simple and practical manner, such as what is our individual toxic load, where are toxins coming from, what can we do about them, what foods and supplement can we take to improve our health and that of our families and the truth behind many fad detox diet regimes. Importantly, everyone in the class will also partake in a 10 to 28-day medical detox, with support every step of the way. With Nutritional expert Andrea Cullen

Small group classes will commence this Thursday the 16th of February at 7pm at One Hour For Me. €90 for 6 week term, register by calling the clinic on 01 835 3653.

Human Givens Therapy (published 15/01/2012)

by Charles O'Connell

Most psychotherapy models adopt a single modality to helping a wide range of people with a diverse problems, a sort of one-size-fits-all approach. Human Givens Therapy is an eclectic model with utilises (and refines) tools from a broad spectrum of schools of therapy including Ericksonian, Rogerian, Choice Theory, Existential Logotherapy, CBT, NLP, and solution focused.

The over-arching principle of the method is that, like we have nutritional needs for our physical health including carbohydrate, fat protein, minerals and vitamins, we have fundamental emotional nutrition needs. If these needs are not met in balance, we experience stress and emotional arousal (amygdala activation). If this persists, it frequently manifests in expressions of mental distress, commonly seen as anxiety, insomnia, depression, pain, addiction, compulsions, etc.

In the presence of emotional arousal the functioning of our higher, rational brain is impaired. The therapeutic aim is, therefore, firstly to reduce emotional arousal to allow the person activate a rational approach to their problems. This is achieved through relaxation techniques and guided visualization. If there is a traumatic precursor this is addressed by a dissociation technique called rewind therapy. Once the rational brain can be utilised a clear, goal oriented approach is used to help the person overcome the causes of their distress.

Human Givens is a holistic therapeutic approach which aims to improve physical, mental and spiritual (whatever this means for an individual) wellness. A variety of techniques are employed, mostly tailored to the individual and their circumstances.
